We still laugh about sleeping on the main floor of our first little Portland bungalow while the roof was removed upstairs. Those early projects are where we realized how much we love renovating and watching a home transform piece by piece. Our first house in Bend, Oregon was a 90s builder-grade home that Derrick fully tackled himself: demo, flooring, carpentry, painting, even a full kitchen remodel.
We built this business from our love of residential real estate and the desire to bring our hands-on experience to clients. Our first Bend investment project sold in three days over asking! This project taught us more and pushed us to dream bigger.
That dream eventually led us to Tennessee. We were drawn to the character-filled homes, the land, and the incredible opportunity to grow our business and flip homes in a new market. It felt like the right place to expand creatively while still serving the Pacific Northwest and our nationwide clients. Tennessee is giving us a fresh chapter!
We’ve lived in twelve homes over our 25 years of marriage, and each one taught us something new.
How it all began
As a graduate of Linfield College, Derrick spent the first 25 years of his career in the financial advisory industry. Later in life, after an unexpected career change, he chose to take a huge leap of faith and move to Bend with his family. Growing up in a family of contractors and trades, he furthered his passion for using his technical skills as a carpenter and entrepreneur. He is a licensed and bonded General Contractor, along with a Residential Real Estate Agent. He works on Clouz Houz investment projects for resale along with overseeing the day to day business operations.

DERRICK CLOUSER
Allison graduated from the University of Oregon and spent her early years as an Executive Assistant at Nike. After renovating and designing her family’s homes, she opened her design studio, Allison Clouser Interiors, in 2018. When she and her family moved to Bend, she co-founded Design Bar and was a Principal Designer from 2019-2022. Eventually, she and her husband, Derrick combined forces and ACI evolved into Clouz Houz. They bring a combined set of talents with home renovations and design, treating each project they touch with the same level of detail as they would their own homes. Interior design is her passion, and she has an acute ability to understand each client's tastes and translate it in a way that is unique to the signature style of Clouz Houz. She lives in Columbia, Tennessee with Derrick and their Golden Retriever, Lucy. Her biggest accomplishment is raising her three children, Emma, Andrew and Charlie.

Kaylei has been part of Clouz Houz since 2022, working closely alongside Allison as Junior Designer on every project that comes through the studio. From large-scale renovations to custom homes, she helps shape each project from concept through execution. After graduating from Oregon State University–Cascades, in 2022, Kaylei quickly became an essential part of the Clouz Houz team. Her work spans conceptual design, finish selections, furniture sourcing, presentations, and the hundreds of thoughtful decisions that happen behind the scenes long before a home comes to life. Originally from a small island in Southeast Alaska, Kaylei brings a love for natural beauty, quiet details, and intentional design to every project.

As the Marketing & Brand Manager, Emma leads the creative strategy behind Clouz Houz, overseeing everything from social media and content creation to partnerships, Substack, and brand storytelling. She's passionate about translating the CH philosophy into approachable, educational content that helps homeowners see the value behind every design decision. As Allison and Derrick’s daughter, Emma has spent her entire life watching their homes transform. That perspective gives her a unique understanding of both the design process and the homeowner's experience. Emma graduated from the University of Oregon with a degree in Public Relations and Ethics. She combines her background in communications with a deep appreciation for the art of design.

After graduating from Colorado College, Sarah built a decade-long career in the nonprofit sector, serving as both an advocate and an administrator dedicated to advancing community initiatives. She later stepped away from her career to focus on raising her two children, now grown and thriving. In 2005, Sarah and her family settled in Bend, drawn by its welcoming community and beautiful surroundings. Since 2020, she has brought her leadership and organizational skills to the interior design industry, managing logistics and operations to ensure projects run smoothly.
